American Express has teamed up with the National Trust for Historic Preservation to form the Partners in Preservation program. Since 2006, $6.5 million have been awarded to preservation projects through this initiative. Each year, a different city is chosen to participate. This year preservation funds and efforts will focus on the 5 Burroughs of New York City.

Take a look at this list of 40 deserving museums, parks and other organizations in need of help. Then VOTE DAILY through May 21, 2012 to help your favorites. Your votes will help give away $3 million to preserve historic sites inNew York City.

Here at ShopforMuseums.com, we are excited to see places like the Louis Armstrong House Museum in Queens and the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in Manhattan on the list. Museums big and small deal with tremendous upkeep expenses both inside and out. Many museums are located in historic buildings, in buildings that have been repurposed, or in buildings that need to be redesigned to accommodate museum exhibits and visitors.
